We Rescue Animals…
In Honor of Corporal Casey Owens, USMC

Who We Are

We’re a small, extremely active group of animal lovers who volunteer to rescue dogs (and cats) from kill shelters — mostly from Kentucky.

And, yes, we rescue these animals in honor of a fallen U.S. Marine, Corporal Casey Owens — making certain these animals find a loving “forever” home. We were friends with Casey… and were moved by the love between him and his rescue animal “Harold The Wonder Dog.”

What We Do

Every few weeks, we drive our converted 2016 Ford 450 Econoline ( pictured above) from the small town of Ovid, NY to Lexington Kentucky. Our mission: To rescue dozens of animals who are days (or in some cases, hours) from being euthanized. We lovingly load dozens of animals in our transport, and drive back the 539 miles (to freedom and a better life). Along the way, we drop off our new animal friends at numerous adoption shelters… And every one of these animals is adopted within a few weeks (yaaaaay).

How You Can Help

Every rescue run costs about 103 volunteer hours (we do it as an act of love).  And a total of about $830 in gas, and an overnight hotel stay in Lexington, KY.  That comes to about $25 per dog or cat saved.

The truth is: We’re completely dependent on the kindness and generosity of people like you to keep rescuing these loving animals. Won’t you please take a minute right now to help?

Meet our Pups on the Shuttle

  • Tristin (first CTTR)

CTTR was formed in August to raise funds for a new shuttle, we went to San Antonio in a SUV to pick up 7 dogs being euthanized, seeing this guys picture, made up make the long trek! Tristin was the first dog in the CTTR transit program. He was adopted by the CTTR founder.

  • Red

Red was one of the first Hounds to ride in the new shuttle. He is featured on the bus right below where he rode and looked out the window on his ride from Kentucky to New York .

  • Joker

Joker was one of our very few Dalmatians that we transport. Ironically, his overnight host, Marcy in Syracuse NY had him as her 101st guest. (Not all of her guests have been dalmations.)

  • CJ

CJ came from Humane Society of Nelson County, KY. He was transported to For the Love of Dog (Swanzey, NH), one of the rescue that takes a lot of Rotties. He’s a gentle giant weighing in at 96 lbs.

  • Levi

Levi was surrendered to Louisville Metro (a kill shelter), and transported to SPCA Quebec. SPCA Quebec has Levi in intensive care for a month due to a botched neuter.

He is now living the dream in his Canadian forever home. Majestic looking dog, my artist couldn’t resist painting him.

  • Cammie

Cammie was the last in the litter and surrendered to a kill shelter. Kentucky Saving Them Together pulled her and was fostering her when the brother of a CTTR advisor decided to adopt this spunky, Border Collie mix puppy. On the transport she went. We fostered her for 6 more weeks until she was old enough to travel to her new family of 5!

  • Phoenix

Phoenix was a 12 weeks old pitbull/terrier mix that came from Louisville Metro when she was transported to Pets Alive in Buffalo, NY. She was confiscated along with her littermates when she was 3 days old from a drug dealer’s automobile. She was adopted by the people who rent the upstairs apartment of her foster parents house.

  • Fluffy Cat

She wouldn’t tell us her name and just stared at the keyboard instead of typing her bio.
